A Giclée Image is a high-end digital fine art utilizing the IRIS print process. The IRIS printer is a high precision ink jet printer capable of producing images using precisely controlled dots of ink ten times smaller than the human hair. Four color inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) are introduced at a rate of one million droplets of ink per second (per color) onto a rotating drum on which a wide variety of print media can be mounted (rag paper, rice paper, tissue, canvas etc.).
Being a computer fronted printer, any and all imaginable alterations can be performed to an image before output. The state of the art in both software and knowledgeable operations are used to exploit this aspect of IRIS printing. From simple dust and scratch removal to complex image creation and manipulation, its all possible with the current state of the art digital tools.
The IRIS print lends itself well to a variety of print products - painting, drawing and print reproduction, fine photography, digital art output, portfolio and limited edition books to name a few. Some artists use the IRIS print as a starting point for originals. Being that they are on fine art paper, images can be drawn on, painted on, printed on, gold leafed, torn, and pasted or what have you to produce original multiple pieces. Print sizes can vary from 22" x 24" and 34" x 46" on a variety of art papers in either orientation. Images can extend to within one half inch of that dimension. Multiples can be printed within that paper size.
